Because we are really tired of the "but but but" mentality we have to deal with every day in Routing, the Following are the only rules and requirements you need to have to link to ChatNet. This is unconditional do don't come online and ask the CRC 1000 times about your application. Our rule is as follows:

If we don't like you or your staff, or your staff has had previous run ins with the ChatNet staff, don't waste your time or ours.
If you can not traceroute or ping, don't waste our time.
If you do not know UNIX in any of its flavors (BSD or System V, or what ever it is that IBM is writing) don't waste our time.
If your server is in a city (Meaning with in the general Metropolitan area) where we already a server, don't waste our time.
If you are going to ask the CRC every day about your application, don't waste our time.
If you are on a cable modem or a DSL, don't waste our time.
If you do not have a non-free email address, don't waste our time.
If you do not know how to compile and implement an IRCD, don't waste our time.
if you or your co-administrator do not have root access to the server, don't waste our time.

As you can see, we are pretty much telling you, bring a server that you have the ability to run. If you are trying to link because you think being an IRC administrator would be cool, note our catch phrase, DON'T WASTE OUR TIME.

Section I - The Applicant

In this section, please tell us about you. We would like to know about the administrator or administrators of this server prior to linking it:

Enter your full name. Please do not use your IRC handle.

Enter the nickname you can be found using on ChatNet.

What is your email address. This address is where all future contact regarding your application will occur.

How long have you been using ChatNet?

Do you have root access to the machine?

Section II - The Co-Administrator

In this section, please tell us about your co-administrator if you have one. If you do not list a co-administrator on this application, you will not be permitted to add said administrator until the completion of your test link.

Enter your co-admin's name.

Enter the nickname your co-admin can be found using on ChatNet:

What is your co-admin's email address. This address is where all future contact with the ChatNet CD&R will happen.

How long  has your co-admin been using ChatNet?

Does your co-administrator have root access to the machine?

Section III - The Server

The information in this section is strictly talking about your server. ChatNet now requires root access on all linking servers. This is not optional. Please also note preferential treatment will be given to servers that are dedicated to ChatNet as well as applicants representing a business, or an University. We have had some people complain that we are asking for too much information regarding the server in our application so we have shortened the application to 6 questions. three of these are on your system, and three are regarding its location:

What City is your system located in?

What Country is your server in? (If you are in the US, Canada, or Australia, enter State or Territory):

What Continent is your server in, AS=Asia, Europe=EU, AF=Africa, AU=Australia, NA=North America, SA=South America. If you are not sure, or your server is islandic, leave this blank:

What is the current total and utilization of your basic system resources? This can be gathered by executing top | head -n5:

What processor is on the machine?

Is this machine dedicated to the ChatNet IRCD?

How fast is your server's connection to the internet

What is the IP of your server?

List whom will help run this server ( Your IRC Operators ) If the nick / email / name is not included here completely, they can not be added to your server during the test link.
