Online etiquette is something that you don't have to follow. However, if you do, it may just make your stay online more enjoyable. And, of course, if you stay out of trouble, we (the Admins and Opers of Chatnet) won't have to bother you unless you'd like to chitchat. The staff of Chatnet does like to have fun online no matter what the rumors are. We have our network help/assistance channel. (#nuthouse ) Always keep in mind that the network help/assistance channel is NOT a chat channel. But also we have #Chatnet, where you can come in, and chat with the Admins and Opers, and maybe even get to know them.
You, as the user, have a few basic things that are required of you. Yes, you do have to help make everyone's stay as enjoyable as possible on our network.
Below is a list of helpful hints for you to go by:
1. Don't packet (nuke, dos, however you would like to put it) other people: This is an infringement on other users right to a good time online. And while we don't g:line (global ban from the network) for such a thing, out of respect for Chatnet and its users, we ask that you don't do it.
2. Don't harass others: If someone says, "Leave me alone" that means leave them alone. Don't message them anymore. Again, this isn't something that we are going to g:line for. All IRC clients have a /ignore function. Most people don't like to use this option; since they may know someone else they'd like to talk to who uses that nick, too. So let's make this easy and just leave others alone.
3. Don't g:line evade: If you are caught evading a G:line that just means that you will be g:lined for even longer this time. Serve your time, just like anyone else, and be done with it.
4. BE NICE: No one likes to come online and be abused. If you are in a bad mood, go plant a tree. That'll wear off aggression and we wont have to have someone join the network assistance channel, begging that you be g:lined.
5. The absolute g:line-able offenses: Child porn, changing hosts continuously with the sole purpose of harassing someone that has you on /ignore, viruses (these glines are usually set with instructions to fix the problem), Wingates, purposely distributing viruses, and flooding (no one likes a disconnect due to Excess flood).
6. The rest is simple common sense most of you know.
· Turn off your Caps Lock. People will think you're shouting at them.
· Don't use colored text until you see others in the channel use it.
· Be aware of people's feelings. This is a global network.
· Think about how that joke will look on a computer screen hundreds of miles (or km) away. Will everyone know it's a joke?
· Make sure you follow the conversation before interrupting someone.
· Always remember that channel masters make the decisions for their channels. If they don't like you, we can't do anything about it. Try another channel.
Keep in mind, that we reserve the right to ban you from our network if there is due cause. Lets have everyone do his or her part to make Chatnet grow strong in the years to come!
