Channel Manager Tutorial

3. Basic commands

K9 Onjoin

You have already learned how to set your password and how to authorize (see section 2) yourself when you join the channel. Now it is time to learn how to add those special notices that you see whenever you join a registered channel.

[Example]
#Doghouse's OnJoin:

-K9- Welcome to ChatNet's CService/K9 help channel :)
-K9- follow the request k9 link for channel registration at...
-K9- http://cservice.chatnet.org
-K9- For some quick help type: /msg HelpBot help
-K9- Please wait to be greeted before you ask for assitance

We are now going to learn how to set a onjoin for your channel. The information you set will be noticed to everyone who joins the channel. So it might be a good idea to keep it from being to annoying. The onjoin is also limited to five lines.

The command you use is 'onjoin'. The syntax is:
'K9 onjoin <#channel> <ADD or CLEAR> <Text>'

When you add a onjoin message you add it line by line and if you want to change the 4th message line in the onjoin you have to clear the onjoin messages and start all over. There is no way to simply remove line four.

To clear the onjoin type:
'K9 onjoin <#channel> <clear>'

To add a message line to the onjoin type:
'K9 onjoin <#channel> <add> <Message>'

K9 guardt

The Guardt command is used to tell K9 to guard topic changes and when someone changes the topic manually (that is not using the K9 topic command) he will change the topic back to the topic that was last added with K9.

The syntax is:
'K9 guardt <#channel> <T or F>'

If you use the T(True) it tells K9 to guard the topic. If you use F(False) it tells K9 to let annyone change the topic, that is disable the guardt.

K9 guardm

The guardm command is very similar to Guardt. But it instead it guards channel modes.

You have already learned how to set your password and how to auth yourself. And now you will learn how to ask k9 to op you. Type this:
' /msg k9 op <#channel> <nickname> '
And suddenly you will see:
*** K9 sets mode: +o YourNick

And now how to remove yourself from op status. Type:
' /msg k9 deop <#channel> <nickname> '
And whoops just like magic you are deoped. But actually there is a even easier way to deop yourself! Yes there is. Simply type this in the channel:
' k9 op <nickname> '
Now you are oped. All the commands can be performed in the channel like that. Simply remove the channel and the the /msg infront. The only commands that cant be performed in the channel are auth and setpass. (security reasons)

Soon troublemakers will come into your channel that are disruptive or misbehave. And you might want to boot them from the channel. This is done in the following manner:
' k9 kick <nickname> <reason> ' or
' /msg k9 kick <#channel> <nickname> <reason> '
This will boot him from the channel, but most people thesedays have an "autojoin channel when kicked" option enabled. This means he will then rejoin directly after he was kicked and might continue with his abuse. But you can always as the owner of a channel deny someone access to the channel. This is done using the following procedure:
' k9 ban <nickname> <time> <reason> or
' /msg k9 ban <#channel> <nickname> <time> <reason> '

Now you will have no problems to understand how the commands section is organized. You will easily understand how to use those commands also. More information might be added to this tutorial as time passes.
