These are some of the frequently asked questions we get about K9.
This FAQ has been updated to cover K9 v4.0.

Q: How do I register a channel?
A: Press the ' request K9 ' link. There is all the information you need.

Q: Can you command K9 without using the /msg?
A: Yes. In the commands section the commands syntax (how you use the commands) are displayed in this manner:
(/msg) K9 op <#channel name>
And if you just remove the /msg and the channel name you can type the commands in the channel. To use the OP command you would type ' K9 op nickname ' in the channel.
Note: You can not use setpass and auth in the channel. (security reasons)

Q: What is my user@host?
A: When online, type /whois . You will get something like this: pHaNtAsY is phantasy@pdx-0029.dip.internetcds.com. This is your user@host.

Q: When I tried to AUTH today, K9 said "AUTHENTICATION FAILED! Better luck next time." What is wrong?
A: Mostly likely you will need what is called a ADDMASK. If you are not the channel master, then you must contact a 400+ op and have them do this for you. If you are, then go to #doghouse and they can do this for you.

Q: What if I change my user in my user@host?
A: If you are the channel master, we will not add those types of changes. You must keep the same user@host that you used when you f irst got K9.

Q: How do I change my password?
A: First you must AUTH with your old password first, and then do the /msg k9 setpass #channel new_password. Then you would auth by using that new password.

Q: What can I do if my channel is moded +i and I am not in the channel?
A: You AUTH outside of the channel, and then have K9 invite you ie /msg k9 invite #channelname> .

Q: What can I do if my channel is moded with a key (+k) and I don't know the key or forgot it?
A: First type /msg k9 ban #channel *!*@* then have k9 part, then you join the channel then type /msg k9 unban #channel *!*@* then have k9 return.

Q: How do I delete my channel?
A: You need to email Cservice@chatnet.org and tell us. Include the channel name, your nick and the password you use to AUTH with.

Q: How do I change the name of my channel?
A: We cannot change the name. You need to email Cservice@chatnet.org and tell us to delete the channel. Include the channel name, your nick and the password you use to AUTH with. We will then delete the channel and you can register for a new one.
